Godzilla

On 3 November 1954, the gigantic primeval lizard Godzilla stomped across the Japanese screen for the first time. Since then, dozens of films featuring the most famous kaiju monster have delighted its fan base, right up to Takashi Yamazaki's GODZILLA MINUS ONE, released in 2023. It is not surprising that the fascination with this material continues to this day, as Godzilla rarely appears without a message. And when has the insistence on nature conservation and the warning against (nuclear) war been more topical than today?

In cooperation with the SLASH Film Festival, we are celebrating Godzilla's 70th birthday and have brought in two experts who are almost as close to SLASH as they are to the highly dangerous, radioactive but also pitiable primordial lizard. Christian Fuchs and Jörg Buttgereit will talk to us before the triple feature with GODZILLA (1954), GODZILLA VS. HEDORAH (1971) & GODZILLA VS. MEGALON (1973) into the world of the immortal force of nature (as film history has shown). Happy Birthday, Gojira!
