Gerlach

Gerlach van Beinum is one of the last old-school farmers to run his farm near Amsterdam. With the help of his friend Rinus, he grows potatoes, grain and strawberries, which he sells in his barn. Meanwhile, the outside world harasses him in the form of money-hungry entrepreneurs, the city council, the neighboring McDonald's and a failed harvest. But Gerlach carries on undeterred. Aliona van der Horst and Luuk Bouwman portray the steadfast farmer with the same dedication with which he works his land, sometimes in close-ups, sometimes in images of his shadow cast on his beloved field.
