Film of the week

Gentle Monster

From Marie Kreutzer

With Léa Seydoux, Jella Haase, Laurence Rupp, Catherine Deneuve

Year 2026

Duration 115 min.

Language German

The successful pianist Lucy has just moved to the countryside with her family when, suddenly, the police turn up at the door and seize all her husband’s electronic devices. For Lucy, a disturbing quest begins to find the answer to a seemingly simple question: who is this man with whom she has shared her life until now? Without sensationalist dramatisation, but with all the greater precision, Marie Kreutzer, in her latest film celebrated at Cannes, turns her gaze to the subtle tremors of an everyday life that suddenly becomes unliveable. Together with a magnificently nuanced Léa Seydoux, she creates a gripping film about trust, repression and power dynamics, demonstrating just how close the monstrous often lies to normality.
