Derya (Özgü Namal) and Aziz (Tansu Biçer), a celebrated artist couple from Ankara, live a fulfilled life with their 13-year-old daughter Ezgi—until an incident at the premiere of their new theater production changes everything. Overnight, they become targets of the state and lose both their jobs and their home. They move to Istanbul, where they temporarily stay with Aziz’s mother.

While Aziz scrapes by with odd jobs and holds fast to his convictions, Derya searches for a way out that will make her financially independent. Gradually, the distance between them and their daughter grows, until they are forced to choose between their values and a shared future as a family.

Following the internationally acclaimed and award-winning film THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE, Oscar®-nominated director İlker Çatak presents another gripping and explosive masterpiece with YELLOW LETTERS. At its center is a couple pushed to the breaking point by the arbitrariness of an authoritarian political system, forced to choose between their ideals and conformity. Powerfully carried by Turkish stars Özgü Namal and Tansu Biçer, İlker Çatak creates an intense and urgently contemporary drama about courage and power—bringing the major sociopolitical questions of our time into sharp focus.

YELLOW LETTERS celebrates its world premiere in competition at the 76th Berlinale.
