Gattaca
A fingernail, a hair, an eyelash, even a tiny flake of skin can identify a person by means of genetic fingerprinting. In Orwellian tradition, nothing is left to chance – all aspects of life are meticulously controlled and monitored. The coming class society no longer discriminates on the basis of age, gender or race, but on the basis of DNA structure. A genetically bred group of ‘valid’ individuals forms the elite, while naturally conceived individuals such as Vincent are labelled “invalid” and must perform menial labour. But Vincent turns to an ‘identity broker’ who brings him together with the embittered ‘valid’ Jerome. The former Olympic swimmer is paralysed after an accident, but with the help of his flawless blood, urine and hair samples, Vincent assumes his perfect identity and realises his dream of working as an astronaut at Gattaca Corp. He is about to embark on a flight to Titan, Pluto's largest satellite. However, when one of his superiors is found murdered and one of Vincent's own eyelashes is found during the search for clues, he becomes justifiably concerned that he will be exposed as a fraud or, worse, a murderer.
