Agnes has been living in Åmål for a year and a half, a Swedish backwater where nothing ever happens and everyone just wants to get away. She is considered an outsider in her class. Nobody knows that she is secretly in love with Elin, the most popular girl at school. When Elin ends up at Agnes' birthday party and kisses her on a stupid dare, it is the beginning of a close friendship in which Elin soon has to ask herself how deep her feelings for Agnes actually go. And suddenly there are so many reasons to stay in Åmål.
