After RE-ANIMATOR, Stuart Gordon and his team have set another milestone (relatively freely) after H.P. Lovecraft in 1980s horror cinema. Comedy and violence, slime and blood, fetish and sex and much, much more form a fantastic grab bag full of 80s genre specialties and a self-excelling Jeffrey Combs, who reaches absolute top form towards the end with a pineal gland that has awakened to a life of its own. According to Carolyn Purdy-Gordon, it's a movie for people who have to look into their handkerchief after blowing their nose and, yes, there's really nothing to add to that.

Dr. Edward Pretorius and Crawford Tillinghast (Ted Sorel & Jeffrey Combs) are onto something big. A machine that is supposed to stimulate the little-researched pineal gland in the brain and give people unprecedented abilities. Little do they know that this will open a gateway to other dimensions, whose undead monsters and phallic-like creatures are targeting humans and who have the strange gift of sexually arousing everyone present. After a first unsuccessful attempt that resulted in a fatality, it is the driven, highly gifted scientist Dr. Katherine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) who is committed to restarting the “Resonator”...
