Year2024

Duration88min.

A magical journey through the life, mind and heart of the iconic artist Frida Kahlo.

The documentary tells Frida Kahlo's story for the first time in her own words, which it draws from illustrated diaries, letters, essays and interview recordings. The cinematic portrait is brought to life through animations inspired by her unforgettable works of art. Frida Kahlo is one of the most important artists of the 20th century; her work includes over 200 paintings, drawings and sketches. In addition, she is also an important socio-political figure, because her pride in her indigenous roots and her womanhood made her a pioneer in the art scene.

Carla Gutiérrez's team consisted primarily of women and proud Latinas. For the production, they were given unrestricted access to research materials, many of which have never been shown to the public before. A unique film experience was created on an intensive journey that spanned two years and covered 40 years of the artist's life.
