Freud – Jenseits des Glaubens (Freud’s Last Session)
London, 3 September 1939: The Second World War has just broken out. Sigmund Freud (Anthony Hopkins) has fled Vienna with his daughter Anna Freud (Liv Lisa Fries) to escape the Nazi regime. Anna, herself a psychoanalyst, supports her father unconditionally, neglecting her own needs in the process. A few days before his death, a scholar from the College of the University of Oxford pays Freud a visit: C.S. Lewis (Matthew Goode), who will later achieve world fame with ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’. On this day, two great thinkers of the twentieth century engage in a controversial discourse on love, faith, the future of humanity and the all-important question for them: Is there a God?
Based on a fictional meeting between two great thinkers, FREUD - BEYOND FAITH interweaves past, present and fantasy and sets off from the confines of Freud's study on a dynamic journey with conversations about this world and the hereafter. Two-time Oscar winner and acting star Anthony Hopkins (‘The Silence of the Lambs’, ‘What Remains of the Day’) shines as Sigmund Freud, while Matthew Goode (‘The Crown’, ‘Your Juliet’) is on top form as his adversary C.S. Lewis. Liv Lisa Fries (‘In Liebe, Eure Hilde’, ‘Babylon Berlin’) once again demonstrates her acting skills as Sigmund Freud's daughter Anna. The film, directed by Matthew Brown, is based on the play ‘Freud's Last Session’ by Mark St. Germain.
