Frank
Quite by chance, daydreamer and wannabe songwriter Jon joins the experimental rock band ‘Soronprfbs’, whose head - in the truest sense of the word - is the eccentric Frank. Frank constantly wears a giant papier-mâché head, both on stage and in everyday life. Although the band's first gig is a disaster, Jon is hired as a second keyboard player. He uses his savings to finance a month-long holiday in Ireland, where ‘Soronprfbs’ want to record a new album. The group dynamics turn out to be at least as experimental as the quintet's quirky music.
FRANK is an unusual music film, a heart-warming tragicomedy full of craziness, and a daring experiment to boot. Director Lenny Abrahamson ‘hides’ his star Michael Fassbender under a papier-mâché head for almost the entire film. But it is precisely from this that Fassbender gives the performance of his life - with his body language and voice, he becomes the charismatic centre of this cinematic pearl.
