Flow – Wie die Katze ihre Angst vor dem Wasser verlor

FromGints Zilbalodis

Year2024

Duration85min.

This great, funny and extremely exciting animated film was one of the most beautiful films at the Cannes Film Festival 2024, was awarded the Audience and Jury Prize in Annecy and is Latvia's official candidate for the Oscar 2025.

No sooner has the little black cat rubbed the sleep out of her eyes than she is startled to realise that a huge flood is burying the old world beneath it. She barely manages to save herself on a sailing boat, where a thieving monkey, a good-natured Labrador, a sleepy capybara and a proud secretary bird gradually find refuge. It soon becomes clear that their differences are their strength and together they face the challenges of the new world.

Director Gints Zilbalodis (‘Away - Vom Finde des Glücks’) lets us drift gently through beautiful animal and water worlds in this magnificent story. Although FLOW - HOW THE CAT LOST ITS FEAR OF THE WATER does without any excessive humanisation of its protagonists, we encounter the animal adventurers in an incredibly animated way. They convey more emotions through meowing, grunting and barking than they ever could with the help of prominent dubbing voices. An animation highlight for young and old!
