Fireworks

Sicily in the summer of 1982: while the whole of Italy is dreaming of winning the football World Cup, Gianni and Nino are dreaming of love without fear. The two teenagers meet with a bang when they crash their mopeds on a country road. To make up for the accident, Nino offers the other boy a job with his father, who organises fireworks displays. Gianni and Nino become friends and soon lovers. But when their conservative families find out about their relationship, the two face brutal hostility. Gianni and Nino are determined to fight for their love - and put their lives in danger.

FIREWORKS is based on a true crime story, the so-called "Delitto di Giarre", which led to the founding of "Arcigay - Associazione LGBTI+ italiana" in the early 1980s, the most important association for queer civil rights in Italy to this day.
