A wide variety of objects that are part of our everyday lives and that we use are manufactured in a complex value chain. The necessary resources are extracted in various countries in a way that is harmful to the climate, and the individual parts are produced and assembled under exploitative and inhumane conditions.
A supply chain law would require compliance with human rights, environmental and climate protection and could therefore create a paradigm shift towards the responsible use of resources. Such a supply chain law is currently being negotiated at EU level.
Climate lawsuits complement this approach by playing an important role in the fight against global warming. Climate lawsuits can hold the big players in the energy industry in particular accountable, which is another step towards a more sustainable and climate-friendly world.
On 28 November, we will therefore be showing the film "Duty of Care" at the Admiral cinemaexternal link, opens in a new tab.
A gripping courtroom drama about the pioneers of climate trials. "Duty of Care - The Climate Trials", tells the exclusive inside story of Roger Cox, the Dutch lawyer who initiated the ground-breaking climate trials against the government and oil and gas giant Shell. These two landmark judgements led to an international wave of successful climate litigation.
We will then discuss with experts how an EU supply chain law could change the current situation and what impact the law could have on those affected and companies.
