Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

FromRuss Meyer

WithTura Satana, Haji, Lori Williams, Susan Bernard

Year1965

Duration83min.

Three go-go dancers try to get their hands on an old invalid's money by any means necessary.

Russ Meyer, known for his fetishistic predilections, cares little for plot and plausibility and delivers what the male viewer wants to see - as far as American censorship in the 1960s allowed. But one should not be deceived by the obvious attractions: Among feminists, FASTER, PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL! is considered a cult film for women's struggles because of its explicit depiction of female aggression towards the world of men.

For 1965, it was quite a courageous approach to portray women as such strong, evil and superior characters to men. As a friend of large bust sizes, Meyer naturally also favours corresponding show values in this work, but he actually manages not to reduce his female protagonists to this.

When the film was released in cinemas, it was a total failure. The plot was too extreme even for the intended male audience and the lesbian undertones disturbed them. In addition, black and white films had fallen out of fashion. The film then found its way into German arthouse cinemas in the 1980s. The film's portrayal of dominant, independent women increasingly appealed to female audiences.

And the film is still making waves in today's cinema: it is even regarded as the template for Tarantino's "Death Proof".
