Fast Times at Ridgemont High
‘At Ridgemont High Only the Rules get Busted!’ - that's what the poster for this cheeky high school comedy says. Aside from a good dose of hormonal hilarity, the film also looks at less enjoyable teenage experiences with sociological acumen: Loitering in shopping centres, exploitative part-time jobs, unwanted pregnancy. Heckerling's directorial debut brings together a pack of future stars in front of the camera, with Sean Penn standing out in particular as permanently stoned surfer-dude Jeff Spicoli. A wonderful summer film in which everyone can really let off steam before the seriousness of life catches up with them, which is already slowly but surely making itself felt in the background.
