Fargo
Tip from Bea
My favourite movie of all times.
Jerry Lundegaard has got himself into a mess. A car dealer with too little money and too much self-confidence, he grins desperately at the inevitable in a state of paralysis. His plan to stage a kidnapping seems like a house of cards in a snowstorm from the outset. The men he hires for the job are far from being professionals. Soon there is blood on the ice. Policewoman Marge Gunderson follows the trail with a clear eye and a calm voice. She does not judge, she understands. Frances McDormand trudges heavily pregnant through this elegy about greed, stupidity and the fragile balance between order and madness. The violence comes suddenly, the dialogue is laconic, the images ice-cold. Minnesota Nice does not protect you from the abyss. But it makes it more bearable and perhaps more amusing.
