Faces Places

FromAgnès Varda

Year2017

Duration93min.

The 89-year-old iconic director Agnès Varda and the 33-year-old street artist JR set off with their unique photomobile to discover and immortalise France's people and their stories: in larger-than-life portraits on façades, trains and shipping containers. From Provence to Normandy, they dedicate their art to people - be it the postman, the factory worker or the last inhabitant of a street in a former mining area.

Landscapes are transformed into stages, faces tell forgotten stories and glances become encounters of warmth and humour. Nouvelle Vague legend Agnès Varda and photographer JR not only share a passion for images, but also a keen sense for people and the poetry of the moment. AUGENBLICKE: GESICHTER EINER REISE is a cinematic stroke of luck that captures the touching encounters of a journey with a special lightness - just like the unlikely and tender friendship that develops between the two artists.

The film received an Oscar® nomination in this year's Best Documentary Feature category.
