Expanded Shorts: Life Lines

FromDiverse

Year2024

Duration72min.

Lifelines focuses on intimate insights, the struggle for identity, belonging and self-determination in the midst of complex social tensions. The four films show people who forge their own paths away from social expectations and obstacles, finding new forms of expression and community. Whether in the tranquil landscape of Xochimilco, where a non-binary person balances between tradition and self-expression (LOLO), or in Colombia's Quibdó, where dance serves as a means of resistance to life on the streets (UNLESS WE DANCE), each film highlights personal challenges that challenge the social fabric. The films follow the threads of migration and loss (Only When You Bury Me In This Earth), from trans identity under reactionary regimes (Leila) to youth culture as a survival strategy, offering multi-layered perspectives on perseverance and the search for a place in the world.
