EVI BECK – EVELYN TORTON BECK -NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS
FEMINIST FRIDAY
FILM & TALK WITH EVELYN TORTON BECK, DORIS INGRISCH AND FLORIAN TANZER.
Never in my wildest dreams’, says Evelyn Torton Beck, could she have imagined what life had in store for her when she fled from Nazi Vienna at the age of five. She became a pioneer of women's and gender studies in the USA, who campaigned against anti-Semitism, homophobia, classism and other isms with her extensive work. Publications such as ‘Nice Jewish Girls. A Lesbian Anthology’ or “Physical illness, Psychological Woundedness and the Healing Power of Art in the Life and Work of Franz Kafka and Frida Kahlo”, as well as her work as part of the “Creative Longevity and Wisdom Project”, tell of her thinking, which repeatedly combined science and art. She now lives her motto ‘I live to give something positive’ in her commitment to teaching and developing Sacred Circle Dance.
The documentary about this woman who is committed to a better world with her whole being was created in 2021 on the occasion of the award of an honorary doctorate from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in recognition of her services in the field of women's and gender studies. Florian Tanzer (idea, camera, editing) and Doris Ingrisch (idea, realisation) accompanied her through the ceremony, meetings with artists and musicians, a demo with the grannies against the right, as guest of honour at the Haus der Geschichte and invited to dance with Evi.
