‘Welcome to the future.’ Eye-patch wearer and professional outlaw Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) has only a few hours to recover a superweapon from Los Angeles, where all undesirable persons are deported in the ‘moral’ USA of the future. John Carpenter's criminally underrated sequel to Escape from New York gives its satirical, dark view of society a fitting overhaul for the capitalist 1990s (including a basketball death game as a commercial parody): cheerful B-movie subversion against the polished action idleness of the blockbuster era. (C.H.) Carpenter: ‘A better film than the first, but for some reason it wasn't as well received. Maybe it was too dark, too nihilistic.’ To start with, here's the (German) trailer for the previous film.
