Eros im frühen Kino

Year0

Duration0min.

Early cinema celebrated physicality and erotic depictions were part of the production companies' standard repertoire. The programme also dealt with themes such as eye relations and voyeurism. The Austrian producer Saturn-Film supplied more than just Europe with its ‘piquant films’ between 1906 and 1910. Its sujets viennois made the ‘Viennese films’ brand internationally famous for the first time by always offering a little more exposed flesh than the competition, and whose actors acted with cheerful impartiality. They incurred the displeasure of the censorship authorities not so much because of their nudity, which today seems almost innocent, but because they took an ironic view of bourgeois society.
