A patriarchal Ukrainian village meets the tractor pointing to the bright future - and the tragedy of the bloody struggle between the old and the new takes its course. The silent film ZEMLJA by Ukrainian director Oleksandr Dovzhenko is considered a masterpiece of the Soviet film avant-garde. It was shot in a real Ukrainian village with authentic villagers. We show the version of the film from 1930 reconstructed by the Dovzhenko Center in Kyiv - with the poppy and multi-layered music of the modern band from Kyiv DachaBracha.
