Enquête personelle (Private Investigation)
A story of alienation: the search for the impossible identity of the ‘Palestinian Israelis’ and the ‘Israeli Arabs’. The starting point is a childhood photo of the filmmaker in which she can be seen singing the Israeli national anthem on Independence Day. Ula Tabari, who was born in Nazareth and now lives in Paris, undertakes research into a state policy that imposes an identity on a minority that is not her own. She talks to her mother about the effects of the wars on the family and about the memories of the ‘Nakba’ (Arabic for catastrophe). She also asks how Palestinian history is taught in Israeli schools. The film is Tabari's personal ‘declaration of independence’. (Thomas Tode)
