However, his diaries are not only full of memories of illustrious guests, but also tell how his sheltered upbringing came to an abrupt end in 1938 when Hitler invaded - and a life marked by painful experiences began ... Frimmel interviewed the then 90-year-old evolutionary biologist on camera back in 2012.
