Eden
Set between two world wars, a time of upheaval and change, several very different individuals set out for the remote and, until then, uninhabited Galápagos island of Floreana in search of a new life beyond the conventions of civilization.
The first to arrive are German physician and philosopher Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) and his lover Dore Strauch (Vanessa Kirby). Ritter is working on a philosophical manifesto and is also determined to heal Dore from her multiple sclerosis. Eventually, the press catches wind of the eccentric couple’s story, inspiring war veteran Heinz Wittmer (Daniel Brühl) to follow in their footsteps—together with his son Harry and his young wife Margret (Sydney Sweeney).
Though initially inexperienced in facing the harsh forces of nature, the Wittmers gradually adapt to island life. The initial rejection by Ritter and Dore gives way to a slow rapprochement—until one day, the capricious Eloise Wehrborn de Wagner-Bosquet (Ana de Armas), a mysterious self-proclaimed baroness, arrives on the island. She brings with her two lovers and grand plans to build a luxury hotel. Using charm and manipulation, she attempts to pit the others against one another and drive them off the island. Vanity, power games, and human greed soon push the fragile peace to the brink, and events spiral dangerously out of control…
With EDEN, Oscar®-winning director Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Rush) delves deep into the darker sides of human nature, telling a gripping version of the mysterious true story of eight Galápagos settlers who sought to live their personal utopia in the 1930s—some of whom would pay the ultimate price.
