Drawfor Change – Episode 1 &2
DRAW FOR CHANGE! EPISODES 1+2
by Alisar Hasan, Alaa Amer, Karen Vázquez Guadarrama
To accompany the Kaktus Cartoon Award, we are showing the award-winning six-part documentary series DRAW FOR CHANGE! in cooperation with the “School of Disobedience.” It features courageous female cartoonists from around the world who challenge social taboos and red lines. Sponsored by the Women's Office of the City of Linz.
The series portrays strong women who are rebellious in their own unique way—they draw because they have no alternative. Looking at their drawings opens up a journey into the realities of life that are shaped by these very images.
They often pay a high price for their commitment: job loss, intimidation, even death threats. And yet they do not give up—and with their pens, they are changing their societies bit by bit.
Two episodes will be shown per film screening:
EP1: Behind the Lines (Syria): Amany Al-Ali
Cartoonist Amany Al-Ali empowers young women and challenges patriarchal systems with her art.
EP2: We are fire (Mexico): Mar Maremoto
Artist Mar Maremoto—a powerful voice full of queerness and punk energy. Through her art, she fearlessly confronts the consequences of machismo, the pain of fat-shaming, and the challenges that come with breaking social norms.
