Year2025

Duration104min.

Accompanying the Kaktus Cartoon Award, we are showing the award-winning six-part documentary series DRAW FOR CHANGE! in cooperation with the ‘School of Disobedience’. It is about courageous female cartoonists from all over the world who challenge social taboos and red lines. Sponsored by the Women's Office of the City of Linz.

The series portrays strong women who are rebellious in their own unique way – they draw because there is no alternative for them. Looking at their drawings opens up a journey into the realities of life that are shaped by these very images.

They often pay a high price for their commitment: job loss, intimidation, even death threats. And yet they do not give up – and with their pens, they are changing their societies bit by bit.

Two episodes will be shown per film screening:

EP5: A stroke of freedom (Egypt): Doaa El-Adl
Doaa El-Adl is considered one of the most important cartoonists in the Arab world. The documentary sheds light on the position of Egyptian women in public spaces and their freedom of expression.

EP6: Democracy under Siege (USA): Ann Telnaes
The artist Ann Telnaes has already won the Pulitzer Prize twice.
With razor-sharp criticism, she exposes political hypocrisy, while leading US political commentators confront the audience with questions about the future of American governance.
