Don’t Look Back
Bob Dylan as he has never been seen on the big screen before or since: Direct cinema pioneer D. A. Pennebaker accompanies the musician during his last major acoustic tour of England in 1965. At his side: colleague and companion Joan Baez, tour manager Albert Grossmann and other key figures. However, Pennebaker is more interested in the surroundings than the music: how Dylan, surrounded by his young fans, engages in the one or other battle of words with journalists or meets the Scottish singer Donovan for the first time and puts the up-and-coming ‘epigone’ in his place is legendary. Although the man portrayed was initially less than satisfied with the result, DONT LOOK BACK is now regarded - not only by Dylan fans - as the holy grail of music films. (Florian Widegger)
