Don’t Die Without Telling Me Where You’re Going
Leonardo works as a film projectionist, but his true calling is that of an inventor. His great project: a dream collector, a machine designed to capture forgotten dreams of the night onto film. What begins as vague, flickering images soon takes shape — a female spirit enters Leonardo’s life, and he falls deeply in love with the mysterious Rachel. In her previous life, Rachel loved a young man named William, who in 1885 developed a machine for his employer Edison that enabled all people in the world to dream the same dream at the same time.
Through Rachel’s spirit, the director creates a link between the past — when cinema was first imagined — and the present, in which many movie theaters are closing once again. With this film, Eliseo Subiela, the great poet of Argentine cinema, crafted one of the most beautiful and moving reflections on the nature of cinema and the world of dreams. With wit, imagination, and many surprising facets, Subiela guides the audience through his magical labyrinth.
