Donbass
Since 2014, a bloody conflict has been raging in the Donbass region between Ukrainian government troops and pro-Russian separatists. In 13 loosely connected episodes, Loznitsa's film alternates between the grotesque, violence and banal routine, revealing how truth, propaganda and fear intertwine – absurdity and brutality are barely distinguishable. Awarded the ‘Un Certain Regard’ prize for best director at Cannes.
