Dogtooth is one of the most radical and ground-breaking films in recent Greek cinema, about a well-off family that has built its absurd totalitarian empire in complete isolation.

A well-off Greek couple systematically isolates their three adult children from the world around them. By means of an elaborate web of lies and a rigid system of punishment, they are prevented from leaving their parents' country estate. The only stranger allowed to enter the hermetically sealed family cosmos is Christina, one of the father's work colleagues, who is brought to the son for sex at regular intervals. One day, however, Christina enters into an erotic exchange with the daughters of the house, which threatens to upset the fragile balance of the isolated community. The parents keep their children in a state of permanent immaturity in their totalitarian patriarchal system. Trapped in this grotesque situation, the degenerate offspring pass the time with naive to sadistic games.
With its seemingly harmless, proper and bright colours, the visual language of DOGTOOTH stands in stark contrast to the film's content. Coupled with the exaggerated acting, the absurdity of this actually pitch-black story is taken to extremes. Yorgos Lanthimos creates an oppressive atmosphere that has helped this rose-tinted psychological thriller to great fame, putting Greek cinema on the European film map with full force.
