Divine Comedy
DIVINE COMEDY, directed by Ali Asgari, is a contemplative and visually immersive drama that explores the boundaries between morality, desire, and human vulnerability in contemporary Iranian society. The film interweaves multiple narratives of characters facing personal and societal dilemmas, where private decisions have public consequences.
With precise camerawork and a restrained, observational approach, Asgari creates a dense atmosphere of intimacy, tension, and quiet revelation. In its essayistic structure, self-reflexive dialogue, deliberate disruption of narrative continuity, and political charge of the everyday, the film clearly evokes the aesthetics of the French New Wave, particularly the cinema of Jean-Luc Godard. DIVINE COMEDY contrasts humor, tragedy, and absurdity, reflecting on how individuals balance personal desires with collective norms—and how the search for meaning becomes possible in a restrictive environment.
Following this, an artist talk with Ali Asgari will take place.
