We see the creation of an impressive panel painting by Franz Ringel (1940-2011) in detail, as the camera accompanies the painter friend over three months as he works in his studio and lives. The creative process is not detached from everyday life; rather, Frankfurter's exceptionally dense film asks how the painting (of the same name) is made and what drives the artist: Fear is his motor, painting his paradise.
