Die Sonnhofbäuerin

The story of a farmer's wife who is waiting for her husband to return from the war captivates in the first half with its bizarre, sometimes exotic, sometimes impressionistic atmosphere, which repeatedly slips into the fantastic, while the second part, which is much more sparse and realistic, is convincing with its wisdom. The servant formulates the moral of the story when he advises his master to blame the cursed war. Carl Kurzmayer and Wilfried Fraß, who worked together afterwards but never directed together again, delight the cinephile mind with the primitive, almost Fullerian furore of their art, and also with its economy.
