In the television adaptation of Chekhov's play, Erika Pluhar takes on the role of Masha, "another one of those harsh and dark characters that suited her at the time. Who she silently but ardently admired while working in the studio was Erich Schellow, who played Trigorin. His calm nobility, the beauty of his language and, above all, his face magically attracted her. She thought he had the most beautiful man's face she had ever seen. 'Why didn't he become a big film star?' she kept asking herself, because in her eyes this man had the class of Cary Grant or Gregory Peck. Perhaps he would have been pleased if she had ever told him that, but she was too shy to do so." (Erika Pluhar, At the End of the Garden)
