In a remote village on the island of Carpathia, a shy peasant girl named Yuri grows up terrified of an elusive animal species called Ochi. When Yuri discovers that an injured baby Ochi has been left behind, she flees to bring it home.
Headstrong Yuri (Helena Zengel) lives with her father (Willem Dafoe) on a remote island called Carpathia. From an early age, she is taught to fear the island's mysterious animal creatures, the Ochis. But when Yuri finds a lonely baby Ochi, she begins to doubt the danger of the creatures. She leaves her home behind to bring the ochi back to its family and experiences the greatest adventure of her life.
