Die Kinder von Golzow: Was geht euch mein Leben an. Elke – Kind von Golzow

FromBarbara Junge, Winfried Junge

Year1997

Duration125min.

"The Chronicle of the Children of Golzow is the life story of people who started school in Golzow (Oderbruch) in 1961 - a few days after the Berlin Wall was built - and are now in the middle of their lives." The text panel used to say "a few days after the GDR's state border with West Berlin was secured": during the decades of filming, contemporary history takes place here, leading from the years of reunification to reunified Germany: For Elke, who learns to be a draughtswoman, soon has a daughter, gets married, separates from her husband again and works in a state-owned company, this initially means losing her job. But soon she also finds new prospects. The title hints at how the relationship between the filmed and the filmmaker changes and becomes the subject of conversations and negotiations - with Elke, her parents, daughters and partners.
