Armand Duval, a young man from high society, meets the courtesan Marguerite Gautier. After a few initial difficulties, the two fall in love, but his father is against the improper relationship and leaves no stone unturned to drive the young couple apart. They only find each other again when Marguerite is already dying ... Dumas' drama, which is certainly autobiographical, became one of the classics of the 19th century, at the latest with Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata. The medium of film also rediscovered the material time and again - and so Erika Pluhar follows in the footsteps of Pola Negri and Greta Garbo to a certain extent in this solidly beautiful work - not without lending her role her own elegance.
