Love, hate, words that can wound and comfort - the letters that the two authors Paul Celan and Ingeborg Bachmann wrote to each other between 1948 and 1971, when he took his own life, bear witness to the great emotions, passion and doubts between two people. Two actors read from these letters to each other in a recording studio and bring the tensions of the precise texts to the surface while they sit together carefree in the breaks, smoke cigarettes and reflect on their own relationships. In this way, a simple premise becomes an enormously multi-layered, fascinating film in which you can literally watch how words trigger emotions, while the levels between staging and documentary seem to increasingly blur into one another.
