Die Farben der Zeit
French tragicomedy about a large extended family who inherit a house once inhabited by a woman who discovered photography in 1895
In 2024, around 30 members of a large extended family receive surprising news: they are to inherit an old estate in rural Normandy. Four of them, Seb (Vincent Macaigne), Abdel (Zinedine Soualem), Céline (Julia Piaton), and Guy (Abraham Wepler), set off to inspect the dilapidated house and take inventory. In the process, they uncover hidden treasures and clues about a mysterious ancestor named Adèle (Suzanne Lindon).
In 1895, the young woman left her homeland to start a new life in Paris. There she encountered a city shaped by the Industrial Revolution and cultural upheaval—a time when photography was on the rise and Impressionism was flourishing. As the four cousins follow in Adèle's footsteps, their own ideas about family, identity, and the future begin to falter. The connection between the two eras reveals a story that blends past and present.
