The architect Pierre Bérard doesn’t really know where he wants to steer his life. His current partner Hélène suffers because of this; she would like to spend a quiet time together with Pierre in Tunis. But the architect cannot bring himself to take the step that would solidify his relationship with Hélène. Instead, he decides to take a vacation with his son on the island of Île de Ré. The more time he has to think, the more he distances himself emotionally from Hélène. Does he really want to spend his future with the young woman?
Finally, Pierre makes a decision — one he intends to communicate to Hélène in a letter. But when he tries to deliver it by car, a fateful event occurs that changes everything that has happened up to that point…
