Die Barbaren

In the small Breton town of Paimpont, all seems well with the world. Even though the inhabitants could not be more different, they are united by their pride in their solidarity and love for their neighbors. As a sign of solidarity, the community enthusiastically votes to take in a family that has fled from Ukraine. However, when the Fayad family from Syria arrives instead of the expected Eastern Europeans, the supposedly cosmopolitan citizens are taken aback. To the surprise of the locals, however, the family turns out to be very cultured and cosmopolitan - disproving all the clichés of the seemingly tolerant community ... July Delpy's highly topical and incredibly funny comedy exposes human weaknesses such as prejudice and a lack of tolerance with a sharp eye, without losing empathy for its quirky characters. The director and leading actress creates a wonderfully revealing comedy about human shortcomings and prejudices. She skillfully balances between thematic seriousness and humorous exaggeration of the endearingly quirky characters.
