Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter
This first "real" feature film by Wim Wenders could be described as a "thriller without suspense": Disqualified for foul play, goalkeeper Josef wanders through Vienna, preferably from the cinema (Howard Hawks and Italian Westerns are playing) to the nearest jukebox ("Walk, Don't Run"). He meets the ticket seller Gloria (short but memorable: Erika Pluhar) and strangles her in passing after a night spent together. He then heads out into the countryside to visit his ex-girlfriend, who now runs a small inn ... Wenders meticulously and soberly follows the template of his friend Peter Handke, taking his inspiration from the visual language of Alfred Hitchcock and - just like his role model - making a cameo appearance at a bus stop.
