Hannes (Sebastian Bezzel) seems to have everything he needs to be happy: a loving family, a house in the countryside, and a solid career as a writer. His big bestseller years may be over, but Hannes takes it all in stride—he simply enjoys being a husband and father. His family, however, sees things differently: his wife Sara (Anna Schudt) and their children Carla (Kya-Celina Barucki) and Nick (Philip Müller) are increasingly annoyed by his overzealous attentiveness and late-bloomer life wisdom.

Then everything falls apart at once: his publisher cancels his novel series, Nick’s chances of graduating look bleak, and Carla decides to move out. When Sara ultimately asks for a break from the marriage and moves into a shared apartment with Carla, Hannes’ comfortable world is turned upside down. He gives up—until he meets Vanessa (Judith Bohle). Could it be her of all people who finally manages to push Hannes out of his comfort zone?
