Diamante – Fußballgott
Brothers Rudi and Ferdi have been passionate about football since they were children in the 1970s. Nowadays, only Ferdi does his rounds at his home football pitch in Rübenach, Germany - when he is the groundsman and draws the pitch markings with his chalk trolley. His brother Rudi, on the other hand, made a career as a professional footballer. He played in the Austrian Bundesliga and moved to Vienna. Contact between the two has been broken off for years. However, when Ferdi suddenly learns that Rudi later emigrated to Brazil and is worshipped there as a legendary football god under the name "Diamante", he sets off in search of him.
In DIAMANTE, the directing trio Georg Nonnenmacher, Karin Berghammer and Ingo Haeb tell the incredible story of professional footballer Rudi Varda using numerous archive recordings. He was regarded as an exceptional talent in the mid-1970s, but never got beyond the status of a second division player and disappeared from the scene in Germany in 1982 after numerous escapades. An entertaining personal search for clues that will keep even non-football fans enthralled until the very last second.
