Devoti Tutti

FromBernadette Wegenstein

Year2023

Duration100min.

Agatha of Catania had her breasts cut off in the year 250 AD. Every year, nearly a million people gather in Catania for the world's third-largest Catholic celebration to pay tribute to Saint Agatha. Through a contemporary feminist lens, Bernadette Wegenstein compares the rituals and festivities surrounding Agatha with the reality of violence that women have faced for centuries, as well as the impact of domestic violence on the women of Catania. Devoti Tutti examines the consequences of martyrdom through the eyes of a magically animated Saint Agatha, who longs for freedom and ultimately attains it.
