Deserto Rosso
Giuliana falls into states of anxiety after a car accident: husband and child become strangers to her, the artificial environment of factories and refineries become threatening in her perception, transforming into apocalyptic visions of decay. After a brief liaison with a colleague and partner of her husband, however, she returns to everyday life.
Michelangelo Antonioni's first colour film depicts the psychological crisis of its heroine with sophisticated, deliberately unreal colour dramaturgy. It is also one of the first films to deal with the consequences of industrialisation and environmental pollution in the mid-60s.
DESERTO ROSSO is shown as a tribute to the recently deceased great actress Monica Vitti.
