Tom, a grumpy teacher and quintessential Englishman, arrives in Buenos Aires in the 1970s to teach English at a boys’ boarding school.
Amid the turmoil of the military coup, his students are rebellious and unwilling to learn, which makes things even harder for Tom. But his life takes an unexpected turn when, one day, he rescues a penguin on an oil-slicked beach in Uruguay—and despite all efforts, he can’t seem to get rid of it. The penguin moves onto Tom’s terrace, becomes a loyal friend, and soon turns into a trusted confidant for his students. After all, penguins aren’t just incredibly cute—they also happen to be excellent listeners…
