Old Mr Pawlik looks a bit like a relic from times gone by: In his small shop in the suburbs, he sells penny dreadfuls, and after he has done his day's work, the widower looks after the bedridden lady in the flat next door. A tranquil existence in the autumn of life. When the woman dies, her son, a petty criminal pimp, moves into the flat and with him the young Czech woman Maria and her little daughter Agnes. For the old man, the prospect of a second spring opens up. He will use almost any means to force a happy ending on his manic love ...
