Der Koch, der Dieb, seine Frau und ihr Liebhaber
The film is a black comedy whose story begins in an elegant restaurant, the domain of chef Richard. “The Thief,” Albert, enables him to conduct his culinary experiments and has himself, his gang, and his refined wife served in a private dining room. Albert’s wife Georgina (Helen Mirren) is repelled not only by his behavior and finds an escape in a passionate affair with Michael, a regular guest at the Hollandais.
Their relationship does not go unnoticed, however, and Albert pulls every string to get Michael into his hands. He demands that his rival be killed and threatens to eat him afterward. Georgina and Michael manage to escape for the time being, but Albert does not relent.
The costumes were designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier, the music was composed by Michael Nyman, and the dishes were created by Giorgio Locatelli, an English television chef.
